Taking Stock – Life Lately In The Time Of A Pandemic.

Happy new month guys! How are you hanging in there?

This year has truly been one like no other and the past few months have been a whirlwind of bad news for the world as a whole.

These days I try to focus more on the positives, so regardless of all of the anxiety and uncertainty, I am actually grateful for the period of rest that I was able to have.

The long hours dealing with Lagos traffic back to back were beginning to take a toll on my mental and physical health.

I spent the better part of the quarantine period recharging and just resting as much as I could even though I was still working from home.

I wasn’t motivated or inspired to create or be productive with things that weren’t “work stuff”, so I did the next best thing with my free time – “rest”.

Things are however finally picking up on this end. Somewhere within my rest stage,  I started consuming more and more content – especially on other platforms (like Pinterest) and realized that I was finally feeling the urge to create content again.

This taking stock post wasn’t meant to be. I had planned to put up a “beauty post” and share some of the contents I’ve been creating lately. But I thought to check in instead, take stock, and share a bit of what life lately has looked like for me during this quarantine period.

Let’s take stock, shall we?

Loving: This mini-community of bloggers/content creators that I managed to find myself in. It’s always nice to have people in the same field of work that you can run things by and also collaborate with.

Watching: Korean dramas on Netflix. My friend kept going on and on about Korean dramas so I decided to give it a try (Majorly for the fashion). I’m currently watching One spring night. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get into them though, they are a bit too slow for my liking.

Wanting: I’m in a space right now where I’m just over “God when-ing” all over the place and wanting my own person/people. Will be a nice addition but right now, I’m over “wanting” it abeg lmao.

Making:  Slight changes to my skincare routine. I love love love skincare and right now, I’m trying to introduce retinol to my routine and wean off vitamin c serums. This means making some slight changes to my routine.

Excited: About learning French! I finally completed my Duolingo registration and started learning French a few days ago. I have procrastinated this for so long, and I’m just excited about finally doing it. I’m currently on a 6 days streak. Whoop!

Wearing: Any comfortable clothing I can get my hands on – mostly sports bras and shorts. This quarantine period made me realize that I don’t have enough “house clothes” and that needs to change.

Reading: My last read – the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo  was a few weeks back and it was a really good book. 10/10. I definitely recommend. I also currently have the book – A woman is no man on my reading list. I started it sometime last week but haven’t had the time to get back to it yet.

Feeling: Sore! My body feels like a trailer ran through it and every movement hurts. I finally started working out after years (actually haven’t worked out since I was born) of procrastinating it.

I am very unfit and struggling even with the basic beginner stuff. However, I feel really good about being able to do this and I’m looking forward to a time when it won’t hurt so much anymore. Lol. cassiedaves-life-lately-taking-stock-blog-2-1.jpg

Hoping: That I can still get to travel this year. Nobody knows when the pandemic will be over and how things – especially travel will change when it eventually ends. I just really hope it ends soon and things go back to some sort of normalcy.

Working: On improving my relationship with God. I recently started daily bible study classes with two of my friends, and asides from the workouts and my Duolingo time, it’s one of the highlights of my day.

Needing: New clothes! I’ve missed the smell of new clothes and that excitement that comes with receiving deliveries.

Knowing: That I am truly free in Christ. That He has taken the pressure to “perform” off already and has made me free. Oh, the joy of resting assured in God’s goodness.

I hope that you’re having a decent enough month regardless of the pandemic? I’ll love to read your thoughts, experiences/ lessons these past few months. How are you really doing?

  • This was a fun read, I am doing okay now, I was anxious a lot in the beginning but now I am just resting and working on myself more now that I have the time. I am currently reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on your recommendation and that book is amazing. You should really get into a woman is no man, it’s a good read but it’s upsetting to see how so many women live a life of silence and servitude.

  • Hi Cassie! This post is such a good read!

I recently discovered I don’t have a lot of house clothes too like shorts, tank tops etc. I plan to correct that error once the lockdown is over.

    You are loved! ❤️

  • This is a beautiful read. I’m currently trying to figure my way around this blogging thing, dealing with comparison as well and not allowing it steal my productivity and just generally staying sane. Thank you.

  • Hey cassie…this is an awesome read…
Is there any specific reason you are cutting off the vitamin c serums…someone recommended them recently and funny enough I just bought a youskin vitamin C serum…🤕…please why are you stopping it?😭

    • Lmao no major reason oh. Infact scratch that because I just bought another one recently so I’m still using it.

My aesthetician doctor friend mentioned that niacinamide does all vitamin c does and more so I figured I’ll reduce my SkinCare expenses and just use niacinamide but I recently found one of the best vitamin c serums I’ve used and purchased it again
