Outfit || Styling Mom Shorts.

Because The High Waisted  Denim Mom Shorts Is A Vintage Classic That Can Never Get Old!

This blog post was meant to be a really quick one. The plan was to drop in, say hi and leave these pictures with a few words but the phrase above popped into my head randomly and I knew just had to follow it through. Haha

Short shorts aren't really my thing, or too tight shorts. I like my shorts like I like most of my clothing - with some room to breath. So while high waist loose fitting denim pants a.k.a mom jeans are all the rave now, there's the slightly overlooked but equally awesome high waisted denim mom shorts that I think should get some love too.
I mean, what better way to show off your legs while still looking retro cool too?.

This was one of my super casual looks during my ATL vacation. I wore this to faff around at home and then to head down to walmart with my aunt. Looking back now, I probably should have paired it with something other than the converse. For some reason I can't place my hands on, the sneakers just doesn't look right to me but then that might just be me being overly critical of my outfit.
What do you think and how would you have styled this high waisted denim mom shorts better? And while we are on the topic of shorts, how do you like your shorts? - short shorts, loose fitting?
Please share!

There's nothing that makes me happier than my weekends lately. My opthalmology posting has been good to me in the weekends department because for once, I actually get to do little to no work on weekends and can focus on writing posts, getting on top of my emails and figuring out how I'm going to do this being successful thing. Lol.

My wardrobe is currently filled with more of work outfits and when the weekend rolls around, I get stuck and just can't for the life of me think of what to wear. Med life induced style rut *sigh*
My go to lately when I can't figure out what to wear has been this polka dot free flowing crop top. It works so well paired with a million and one things that I wonder why it took me so long to fall in love with it. I paired it with my black pants from this post on baring skin and finished up the look with white flats. I think there's just something about white shoes that adds extra spice to a look.
What do you think?
This outfit isn't exactly a recent one. I wore this during my stay at the Dunes centre in Abuja. I decided to go for a casual and comfortable feel (as per normal) on that day, because at the dunes I had to be dressy on more than a few occasions and this look was the one outfit that made me feel a little bit more like myself again.

Pairing oversized on oversized and disregarding the normal rules of proportions might not be everyone's cup of tea but I find that the whole boxy silhouette thing works just fine for me. Another thing that I love is my monochrome, you might have already guessed from the official cover design of the Cassie Daves blog planner. Lol
We all know that you can't go wrong with all black looks but black and white is just one of those pairings that equally werks.
Do you agree?
Do you have a go to outfit or style formula for when you're stuck in a rut? Please share and let's connect.
Hope you have a wonderful week ahead too!

Outfit || Mixed Prints And Colour Pop

Wednesday, 8 February 2017
If there are two things I wouldn't have ever thought I'd end up doing, it'd be wearing lots of bright colors (at once!) and wearing a mix of different prints in one outfit.I just wasn't that type of person - I loved my black and less extravagant colors, thank you! plus I couldn't just see how wearing stripes on polka dots didn't equate to total madness.
All that has since changed though. I saw the light at the end of the fashion tunnel (thankfully), my personal style evolved with time and of course, I became more open minded as well.
Right now? Bring on the prints! Although, I wouldn't say I'm 100percent team bright colors because I still stay within safe limits but I definitely rock prints well now. Evidence? Check out this look, this and this.

The mixed prints trend isn't a new one, has pretty much had it's time in the spotlight and is currently in hibernation. I myself have over flogged it on the blog - I blogged all about mixing prints like a pro in this post and did a couple of mixed prints outfits myself which you can peep here.

For this look/post, the intent isn't exactly to dwell on the mixed prints trend, but I like how both prints worked well together to add that extra oomph to the ensemble.
What do you think?
These pictures were taken by Blogger boo Bella early last year at the Art Cafe  - I talked about meeting up with her and shooting a look together in this post, but somehow we just never got around to putting up that post. The theme back then was "retro" and although it might not look like typical 90's but think jellies, vintage blazer, choker and bright prints.
I started out with a semi - casual look - the shirt unbuttoned at the neck, choker necklace paired with my pink polka dot skirt (styled previously here, and here). I decided to take it up a notch by throwing on this vintage floral print jacket, sunshades and topping it with my white leather jellies from this post.
Let me know your thoughts on the look!
It's pretty late right now and I'm exhausted from my day but I just had to get this post up at least before heading to bed. So, now that's said and done. Please feel free to show some love by using the share buttons below and leaving me those comments below! hehe

January Notes, Taking Stock x A Few OOTD's

Wednesday, 1 February 2017
Happy NEW MONTH Guys!

I'm writing this currently sitting in a seminar at work that hasjust refused to come to an end. My plan was to shoot some bomb head shots to accompany this post but yet again, my unit at work managed to steal most of my free time and it's now too dark to shoot anything. So, I figured to go through my phone and also share a few outfits that didn't make it to the blog to this recap post.

This past month dragged so long and felt like a blur to me. It feels like all I did was basically work, eat, sleep, rinse and repeat. I started my posting in internal medicine and almost like I predicted in my post on making the move to medicine, it wasn't a walk in the park at all. I finally get to leave endocrinology and move to a new posting today and I am just so happy to be leaving in one piece. lol I'll blog more about my endocrinology posting in my next med diary post but seeing as it made up the most part of my month, it deserved a mention.

If you read my 2016 blog recap post, one thing I was happy I did content wise last year was the end of the month recaps and so this year I'm happy to be writing my first one and taking stock of my month again.

So, here's what January looked and felt like for me.
Making To do lists in my blog planner. That I some how always manage to keep carrying over. *sigh* . Also, financial plans and trying to figure out ways to budget and handle money better. Any advice?

Eating : Old Country bread. It's this bakery in Luth that sells the most amazing squishy soft bread! If only the lady at the counter smiled more often.

Playing : Nathaniel Bassey's - Onise Iyanu. I honestly hardly add any new songs to my phone so I play this on repeat almost every day.

Reading : Nothing. I haven't read a book in ages. I mean, where is the time?

Understanding : That people are different and react to things differently.  Working with people and also having to deal with various types of people from my blog planner sales, understanding that has come in super handy.

Wasting : Opportunities in promoting my blog at work. I've had a patient's relative ask me if I run a blog and then a nurse tell me to start a blog, before it hit me that I should actually be the one telling them to go check it out. It just feels weird talking about my blog at work. Do you talk about your blog at work? How do you pop it into conversations?

Knowing : That all things are working for and will work for my good at the end of the day.
Wishing : That I could really just take a break from work for a week to travel. I need a break guys! And I have major travel plans this year.

Excited : To be leaving Endocrinology! Lol! I haven't been excited for much this year, is that bad?

: At just how deep this Diabetes thing is. I mean, I knew the complications of it from med school and all but I never had to deal close up and first hand with those complications. Believe me, It is nasty!

Wondering : Why people just wouldn't adhere to their medications and stop putting themselves at risk. Most of the patients that are on our wards got there because for some reason, they stopped taking their drugs and eating right. It can be a bit frustrating but then I guess I can say the same for myself not finishing my dose of antibiotics as soon as I start feeling better.

Hoping : I have a better time in my Ophthalmology posting. It just sucks that I'll be the only house officer there, meaning no colleague to lament over work and bond with. Lol

: My pajamas pant and a crop top.

Feeling : A slight urge to go back to Ward A3 to check on my patients and say hi to the nurses but Nah Mehn.

This past month, I had to do a lot of adulting and growing up. For one, I finally moved away from home to a place at work and I've had to take care of my own needs, make tough decisions and master my finances.
January has been as real as real can get but look who pulled through at the end of it? With the stress of work, not having much time to obsess and micro manage every part of my own business (blog planners) and having to deal with the consequences of it all, it really has been real and I'm happy to say goodbye to January. Big shout out to everyone that bought a blog planner for being super  supportive and understanding!

I had to take a break from social media for a while because I got too stressed to care less. I stopped posting frequently on my gram (although I was super active on my instastories. lol), stopped promoting my blog posts and sending out mails. At first, I was a bit worried about how that would affect the brand, people moving on to the next thing, and kept looking at other people that were posting on the gram about ten pictures a day lol but you know what? I just had to take a step back and acknowledge that my reality right now isn't the next person's reality and trying to be wonder woman and keep up with everything and everyone would only make me break down. What's that thing about self care again?

Getting back to it all has been a bit slow because my phone got stolen towards the end of January in the most shocking way which was just so sad for me. My pictures that I somehow managed to never back up and the fact that I already had most of the pictures that goes up to my instagram page arranged neatly in a folder killed my mojo even more. For an instagram lover like me, you can imagine how it's been. I hope to get back to the middle of things all this month.

On the plus side, January brought me more financial and personal freedom than before and that I am thankful for.

How did January treat you?
Was it just a trial month for you, like me or you actually made progress with some of your goals?
What are you excited about/looking forward to this month as well?
A Bit On The Outfits.

You've probably seen a few of these looks on the blog already like the denim dress from my last post , the sweater and shorts look from my time in Ouidah and the pink off shoulder top casual look . I'm usually dressed super casual but I always try to add a stylish twist.
  • In the first look, I'm basically dressed down in a vintage print shirt and denim pants - I think my hair really jazzed up that look. What do you think?
  • For the second look, my harem pants and Iconola crop top (remember it from this post?) came out to play! I wore that during one of my work registration runs. I think harem pants are the next best thing after mom and boyfriend jeans. What is your favourite style of pants to wear?
  • There's the school girl all dressed in red look, that I wore to work back when I was still in my chilling obstetrics and gynaecology unit. I like the way the monochrome red top just blends well with the red skirt. I've styled the skirt previously on the blog here
  • What's left? Ah yes, My mom jeans and T-shirt look to the eat drink festival last year and my vintage dress (styled previously on the blog here) that I almost sold off at the fashion bloggers yard sale
Which is your favorite look?
What is your everyday style like.
Let me know guys, let's get talking!
Wish you a wonderful month ahead.

Outfit || Styling The Denim Dress - Updated Look.

Sunday, 29 January 2017

Lately, I've been living in majorly pencil skirts, dresses, and pants made of fabrics that aren't denim. I'd almost forgotten just how good being in denim feels and how stylish it makes you look, till I stumbled upon these pictures I took at the Andrea Iyamah event sometime last year and somehow forgot about. Not the best picture quality, please bear with me.
Denim pants, especially mom jeans will forever remain a fave of mine but in this post, I'm taking a break from all my talk on how awesome mom jeans (and shorts) are and talking denim dresses instead.

I love loose fitted dresses, the type that you can easily throw on and go (like my 80's inspired dress from this post). That's why this denim dress happens to be one of my faves. You might remember the dress from it's the first feature on the blog in this outfit post where I styled it for a casual day out look.
For the Andrea Iyamah launch, though, I decided to use one of my own style tips to spice up the dress by layering with a white shirt underneath and opting for my white court heels, instead of flats.
What do you think?

I planned to make this a quick post but look who ended up sharing more than just a "quick pop in". lol. I still have a couple of looks centered around this denim dress that I can't wait to shoot and share with you guys, but let me get your opinions on this look and let me know how you would style this dress differently. I'll love to try out some of your options!
And Let's connect

P.S - Check out these other denim looks!

My 2016 In Style, Blog Year Recap x A Few Goals For 2017

Thursday, 12 January 2017
Not another recap post right? The last one for the year, I promise! I planned to put this up last year but time and chance happeneth to this girl. I know I've blogged about how to combine your 9 - 5 and blogging and make it work but right now, I work a 7am - 12am, 7 days a week and shit is just so real!

Notwithstanding though, doing a recap of my year in style is yet another tradition ( just like my year in words ) of the blog that I have to uphold. There's just a little twist to it this time around, because I'll be including my 2016 blog recap in this post as well as doing a round up of my looks on the blog from last year.

I did an end of the year blog review in 2015 and found it super helpful in taking stock of my blog year and setting new goals, so I figured hey! Why not try it out this year too? But instead of having two sepearate posts for both recaps , I decided to merge them instead. I'm hoping this makes it a lot easier for you to follow and also takes down having to throw in yet another review post in your face lol.
As always, there will be direct links to each look below the picture. All you have to do is click the number that corresponds to the picture and voila!

So here's my year in style, some of the progress I made with the blog this year, and a few goals for 2017.

Style wise : For some reason, I didn't think that I slayed as much as I did the previous years but putting together this post and seeing all my looks at a glance, I guess I can say that I didn't do so shabbily after all.
What do you guys think?
This year (read as 2016. lol), there was less outfit posts than last year and even less of my signature prints/retro and eccentric style. I played more around casual with a twist looks, bared a bit more skin , denim because what is life really without denim? androgyny and threw in a bit of glam girly look in the mix too.
I also switched my look up a bit by experimenting with my hair - Going the crochet fro way definitely added some extra spice to my style.

Working as a full time medic means less experimenting for me this year as I'm basically stuck at work 24/7 with a strict dress code . I haven't worn denim this year at all - it is that bad! But I'll try to share more of my work style and how I'm making the dress code work for me regardless.
I shared some of my 2015 style goals last year and this year, one of my goals will be to have a more balanced wardrobe. I talked a bit more about what that means for me in this post.
I really can't say for sure which look was my favourite but I sure loved glamming up in Maxine Arthurs, twirling and looking Wedding guest ready in Design for love, channeling some free spirited solangey vibes, my floral inspired look  and the urban chic look for LFDW.
Which is your favourite look?
Please share in the comments!

Blog Wise : It was one interesting year filled with ups and downs but definitely also with progress and greater heights as well.

I finally got a new blog theme this year. That was one major area I mentioned in last year's recap that needed change and it gave me so much fulfillment to finally get to tick that off. I switched it to something minimalist but responsive and pretty to look at. I'm already itching for another change and I still have a couple of fixes to make to the blog though like create a start here page, optimize my home page to display a lot more content and be a bit more user friendly. I am also looking to finally move from blogger to either WordPress or squarespace.
Speaking of pages, have you said Hi and introduced yourself in my "introduce yourself" page? What are you waiting for? Let's get to know each other better this year!

My blog grew quite a bit this year - not really just in stats but I like to think also in positioning. I got to feature in two major nigerian magazines as a blogger which was really just so awesome! : You can read all about both my Mania magazine and Guardian Magazine features.
I got to work with Daniel Wellington which I've been eyeing for a while now and Infinix Nigeria which was a big one for me. I also got my very first physical blog award and got to have my first all paid expense blog trip which you can read all about here
One other thing I kept re-writing in my planner was having a Twitter chat and just before the year ran out, I got to finally have one with a few other awesome African bloggers and hosted by the awesome SheLeadsAfrica.

Now let's talk content. There was less of style posts like last year and more lifestyle type posts. I didn't introduce as much new categories like I did last year and wasn't quite as consistent with some of the old ones like Reader's spotlight, candid talk and celebrating creativity. I honestly can't promise to do better this year but I will try with the reader's spotlight at least because I really enjoyed reading/featuring the people that read my blog. I introduced the blog love series where I share a few blogs that I currently love. Although, I realized the importance of blogger friendships, I didn't get to do a lot of blogger style collaboration this year - just this summer style inspired look with Anjola.

At some point this year, I thought about quitting this blog. If you're signed up to my mailing list HERE, you would already all about this. I got frustrated a bit with putting in so much work all the time and coupled with the fact that I was almost always mentally/physically tired, it was taking a toll on me. I also let the comparision bug get to me and I started feeling envy because some of yall decided to decamp (why you gotta do me like this? Lol!) but I'm happy that I didn't quit. I've been blogging for way too long now and on most days, I can't imagine not blogging.
If you quit in the process, you're quitting on the result. Click to tweet!

On the social media end, I still didn't up my pinterest game this year after all my noise lol! Regardless of how many posts I've read about pinterest, it has still been so hard for me to get into it. I might just outsource my pinterest and hire someone to handle that bit for me this year. My instagram grew alot this year, same with my twitter because I started spending more time there

Some of my blog/brand goals this year would be
  • To move from blogger to wordpress or squarespace - set up my shop and switch up my blog theme to something functional : I'm getting increasingly tired of blogger and its many restrictions and I just need to move.
  • Finally host my own workshop and launch that tote line already!
  • Write an ebook or two, introduce e-courses, challenges and add content upgrades to my posts.
  • Take my blog review and consultation services more seriously.
  • Reach out to and initiate more brand patnerships
  • Take the Cassie Daves Blog Planner to an even higher scale - have you got your 2017 blog planner yet? Details here!
  • Create a consistent schedule for my newsletters
  • Get an intern/more hands to help out with the blog. With my rigorous job, I really cannot do it all alone anymore so if you'll like to be a part of the Cassie Daves Team. More Info here!
  • Try Vlogging, maybe!
This year, I really want to document more of my thoughts, the little moments and share more of my everyday style - not just the looks I think are bloggable and by God's grace, there will bemore blogging related travel trips, international features and more awesome brand partnerships.
