Reader Spotlight || Theresa Compah-Keyeke

Saturday, 27 February 2016
Hey Hey guys!

I know its been a hot minute since the last reader's spotlight but I'm back with another feature today.
Reader Spotlight is basically a way to sort of give back, finally stop yapping all about myself day in and out on my blog (seriously, don't you guys get tired of reading about me? Lol) and get to know my readers better.
Let's meet our fourth reader in this category! ( You can read the others herehereand here)

Hi Terrie, Please can you tell us a bit about you?
My name is Theresa Compah-Keyeke, I
hope it’s not a mouthful. I am a student, blogger, PR for brands and an Etsy shop owner. I’m also a self-thought makeup artist, so I’m an extremely busy 23-year-old.

Girrllllllll, I love people that are making moves and trying to create the future they want, so kudos!!. Please can you share with us some of your interests/passions
I am interested in everything social media, makeup and fashion related. I also love to share what I know about makeup and lifestyle on my blog so my friends can always have a place to go when they are ever in doubt about something.
Unfortunately, my mind never sleeps, I’m always thinking and getting super ideas and I also love to share those as
well, who knows who might benefit.

I can definitely relate with the 'my mind never sleeps part'. There was a time for me, that I literally had to shut my mind myself so I could sleep - it was always working overtime.
What's one challenge you face?
My biggest challenge is TIME. I never
seem to have enough. I’m one of
the people that wish there were 50 hours in a day instead of 24, ut I’m a
really focused and organized person so I always pull through with the
mindset that my dreams have already been achieved with faith in God. He has blessed me with an endless flow of creative juices. Can I hear an AMEN…: ).

I like that mindset and AMEN!
Whats your dream career and how you are working to achieve that..... Or not
I would love to be an entrepreneur.
With a magazine, makeup brushes
and cosmetics line, a clothing line and a perfume line all to my name, and
I am studiously working on it.

Girl Boss stunttt! I like ya, I feel ya.

Whats your favourite quote/advice that has helped you in life?
A wise woman once told me, “hard work doesn’t kill, It gets you exactly what you want. Work hard and leave the rest to Jesus Christ”. These words are from my mummy, and they get me on my feet every time I’m getting down.

Defff! Currently loving ?
I’m currently loving my Maybelline
dream Velvet soft-matte foundation
in the shade coconut, it’s just too perfect, and my new set of kabuki
brushes from Etsy...

I don't know much about make up/brands but ever since I got my maybelline powder ( review here) - I'm now #TeamMaybelline

Can you share one random fact about you?
I hate goats and sheep. I simply CAN NOT stand their smell, I would rather go hungry than try cheavon

Ehrr, I don't know what cheavon is. Gimme a second, let me ask google.lol
What are some/any life lesson(s) you've learnt lately that you wish you knew earlier?
I actually wish I knew how important it
was to build your grades in first year before stuff starts getting harder.
It takes a lot of stress off you as you go alone. I learnt it the hard way.

That's one thing I always advise people and one thing that helped me a lot. I got into school guns blazing from day one. I'm glad you know how key it is now and you're sharing to educate others too. Is there any tip you'll like to share?  ( could be anything : photography tip, tips to keep organized, food tip/secret recipe etc )
Take a leap of faith, especially if you want to get into blogging or anything social media related. Make sure you standout in everything you do. Your uniqueness is what gets you the loyal viewers. Although it may seem like your standing alone, don't worry, the rest will catch up eventually.

Finally, Is there by chance anyway (style/ life) that reading my blog has helped you? (Or not. Lol), I'll really love to know.
Your mix print inspiration post (Read the post here) was super dope. It has really seen me through a really out of the bloom meeting paaaa charle stop. I ended up looking like such a diva. It was the ultimate closer.

Awww! ^_^
Thank you so much Theresa for reading my blog and taking time out of your day to chat with me and answer my questions.  Have you subscribed though?

Reader Spotlight : Ella Medupin.

Sunday, 22 November 2015

Hey Hey guys!

I know its been a hot minute since the last reader's spotlight and I apologize for holding off this particular feature for so long.

Reader Spotlight is basically a way to sort of give back, finally stop yapping all about myself day in and out on my blog (seriously, don't you guys get tired of reading about me? Lol) and get to know my readers better.

Alright, so let's meet our third reader in this category!

Hi Ella, Please can you tell us a bit about you?
My name is Ella Medupin. I'm 21, a very recent computer science graduate, a natural hair enthusiast and  vintage lover.

We have one thing in common there, can you guess? lol. Please can you share with us some of your interests/passions
Basically I love doing everything with a hot cup of tea(green).
I love making my hair myself too, it sort of relaxes me and gives me time to think. I have a passion for recreating hairstyles I see on the web or other people. I also like movies (romantic comedies mostly), street style fashion and catching up on my favorite blogs.

I love street style fashion too! Hayy, another thing in common!
What are some challenges you face and what keeps you going?
For challenges, personally I don't push myself enough because I'm too cautious of failure. It's a challenge I'm currently working on. Also getting enough money to satisfy my hair appetite..lol it's just hard.. What keeps me going is that I'm pretty creative so I constantly find ways to make these things work and then I get compliments from people and it's all good.

Lol. I get you! On the enough money and being creative bit. I used to be too cautious of failure, but eyan le ku anytime so I'm just out here trying to do everything I possibly can in this lifetime.
Whats your dream career and how you are working to achieve that..... Or not

I would love to make wigs on a commercial level. It's my favorite kind of protective styling and I'm currently working towards that.

I like to think that I'm a wig person but somehow I just haven't owned any and I don't wear them much. I guess I'm not so much a wig person right? That'll be dope though! And just know that I'll be here to share your stuff when you finally launch.

Whats your favourite quote/advice that has helped you in life?

My favorite advice is 'He who kneels before God will stand before men'. The importance of prayer can not be over emphasized.

Defff! Currently loving ?
I'm currently loving colored hair and Afros. If you have colored hair, we may be besties and you don't even know it..

Lol, I love colored hairs too but sadly mine isn't. So I'm guessing we can't be besties :( . Can you share one random fact about you?
Random fact about me is that I hate doing my laundry..just hate!

What are some/any life lesson(s) you've learnt lately that you wish you knew earlier?
What I wish I learned earlier is that no matter what, you'll be okay..
Also, if you wait for things to get handed to you, you may have to wait forever. You want something, make effort to take it.

Is there any tip you'll like to share?  ( could be anything : photography tip, tips to keep organized, food tip/secret recipe etc )
The simple act of moisturizing and deep conditioning your hair could work wonders for your hair growth. I share styling and hair care tips on my blog..
Another one is to add half a lemon/lime to your cup of tea.. It changes the game completely!

Finally, Is there by chance anyway (style/ life) that reading my blog has helped you? (Or not. Lol).
I fell in love with your blog because it's very relatable. It constantly shows me how to achieve/create certain looks within budget. I have a shirt dress I'm going to style the way you did when next I wear it.

Awww! ^_^ . Check out the way I styled my shirt dress here

Thank you so much Ella for reading my blog and taking time out of your day to chat with me, I think you have a really beautiful smile.

Reader Spotlight || Nedu Ahanonu

Saturday, 1 August 2015
Happy new month guys!
Remember my first reader spotlight feature here? Well, there's another one today which I particularly enjoyed reading because of our mutual hate for Lagos traffic and the new word I learnt from her. Haha

In case you're new around here :
Reader Spotlight is basically a way to sort of give back, finally stop yapping all about myself day in and out on my blog (seriously, don't you guys get tired of reading about me? Lol) and get to know my readers better.

Alrighty, Let's meet our second reader in this category!

Hi Nedu, Please can you tell us a bit about you?
My name is ‘Nedu Ahanonu, I am an Investment Analyst, I live in Nigeria and I am very enthusiastic about DIY sewing.

Investment Analyst, definitely has to do with money right? I'm liking you already. What's the 411 na? Lol
Please can you share with us some of your interests/passions
I call myself a Sewista, as I enjoy the pattern drafting and garment construction process. The “Eureka!” feeling that comes from joining bodice, skirt and sleeve pieces, and creating a finished garment. There’s always a sense of self-pride when people compliment my outfit and I tell them that I made it myself. It makes me happy that I created something lovely with my own hands.
I also enjoy writing: Blogging gives me an outlet to merge my musings and hobby.

Sewista', I learn new words everyday. That's really lovely! I know that feeling too, I used to knit and make bead necklaces and earrings back then. It always felt so good knowing that I was wearing something I made myself. What are some challenges you face and what keeps you going?
Top on the list of challenges is Lagos traffic, but car-dancing to Nigerian “jollof” music keeps me sane during my traffic crawl. So, if you see a lady gleefully doing the shoki eye- hand gestures inside her car, on the Third mainland bridge, that would be me.
Some of the things that keep me going include; watching stage theatre plays, curling up in bed with a good book and chocolate buttons after a long day, and gisting with my little niece, she calls me “Chi baby and says the funniest things.

Well, not exactly the type of challenges I had in mind but hey Lagos traffic is enough to drive anyone insane. I'm hardly in it so I didn't really understand the fuss till the other day I spent close to four hours heading home from the island. Welp. What’s your dream career/how you are working to achieve that?
I have a Masters degree in Economics & Finance, and I love working in Business Advisory. My dream is to convert my DIY sewing into an entrepreneurial venture. It’s financially intelligent to always have a Side Hustle.

I totally agree on the side hustle thing. What’s your favourite quote/advice that has helped you in life?
Favourite quote is “Bless all the work of my hands, o Lord”- Deut 28:12
Favourite advice is Let your prayer be more of gratitude than of supplication.

Currently loving?
My new dress form mannequin (a.k.a. Lady Violet), it was custom made for me in Accra.

Aww, you named your mannequin. Lol. Random fact about you?
I wore dental braces for 2.75 years.
I remember my orthodontist with great fondness when I look at my aligned teeth.

I need that braces thing myself, my dentition is just messed up.Everytime I go to a dentist, they recommend it and I'm like haayyy, come on guys!  Lol What are some/any life lesson(s) you've learnt lately that you wish you knew earlier?
One, is to appreciate the beauty of serendipity; a supposed mistake might just be a blessing in disguise that eventually transforms into the start of something awesome.
Another, is that when you dictate your ownstyle, step out of the trend zone and, to an extent, not seek other people’s validation, you will feel a little powerful from the attention, because you will get noticed when you look different from the norm.

Is there any tip you'll like to share?  (Could be anything: photography tip, tips to keep organized, food tip/secret recipe etc )
That would be Refashioning. Browse through your clothes for items you once loved but have now become bored with, and tweak them (either by yourself, if you can or with the help of a tailor), to suit either your style or current trend.
Take for example, a basic dress comprises of a bodice (above the waist) and a skirt (below the waist), if you are no longer “feeling” the style of the bodice, you could detach the skirt from the dress, add a waistband and voila! It becomes a new-ish skirt that could be paired separately with other tops.
It’s practically like shopping in your own closet.

Oshey sewista, come and help me refashion na ;). Finally, Is there anyway (style/life) that reading my blog has helped you?
Oh! Yes, I’m inspired by your non-conformist sense of style.  While driving through traffic the other day, I saw a roadside peddler selling some Hausa handmade traditional caps.  One looked really stylish, it was off-white and crocheted.  I imagined it atop my head; positioned at a jaunty angle, and thought of all the ways I could style it.
I was debating about whether or not to purchase the cap, when I remembered your Fez hat post, and I said to myself “Why not?!”.  Then, I bought it.

Thank you so much Nedu!

In other news, what are you guys up to this weekend? Who will I be jamming at Yagazie's bialere exhibition today?

Reader Spotlight || Busola Ayelowo

Saturday, 20 June 2015
If you follow me on Instagram or facebook, you would have probably seen my post introducing this new segment on my blog 'Reader Spotlight".
If you haven't, this is something I've been meaning to start for a while now.
Reader Spotlight is basically a way to sort of give back, finally stop yapping all about myself day in and out on my blog (seriously, don't you guys get tired of reading about me? Lol) and get to know my readers better.
Let's meet our first reader in this category!

Hi Busola, Please can you tell us a bit about you?
My name is Busola Grace Ayelowo, 22 years old Nigerian but currently living in far away Russia. I'm a medical student in my 5th year currently studying at Crimea federal university Simferopol

Oh yay! Medical student! Just like myself a short while ago. I always have a soft spot for fellow medical students, I feel like we are kind of connected already. Haha. Please can you share with us some of your interests/passions
I have a great passion for kids, the very reason I decided to enrol into medical school so as to help them as I plan to specialize in pediatrics. I hate to see the little ones get hurt by things they have no control over!  I also love cooking. I'm a sucker for good food so it's only normal I love it

That's really lovely! About the kids and pediatrics thing, I mean. They couldn't pay me enough to specialize in paediatrics. I feel so bad when I see doctors prick premature babies but then who knows, if the pay is right. Lol. I'm with you on the food thing though but cooking isn't one of my hobbies.
What are some challenges you face and what keeps you going?
My greatest challenge right now would have to be gender inequality .... Prayer and family keeps me going

I would have loved to expantiate on the gender inequality thing and how its a challenge to you in particular but I didn't think of that earlier, though its like they say 'family is everything' and prayers will get you far (Okay, I'm not sure anyone says that but it works) Whats your dream career/how you are working to achieve that..... Or not
I want to become a pediatric surgeon and I'm more than half way to fulfilling that !

Yes you definitely are! Whats your favourite quote/advice that has helped you in life?
Whatever you are, be a good one -Abraham Lincoln

Currently loving ?
I am currently loving the G65 Mercedes Benz

Lol, I have no idea about cars but that sounds badass! Can you share one random fact about you?
I forced my way to medical contrary to all the advice that I would be better in the fashion or entertainment industry

Hayyy! Were your parents/siblings amongst those giving that advice?. That will be really surprising, knowing how African parents are. Lol. I love your drive girl!  What are some/any life lesson(s) you've learnt lately that you wish you knew earlier?
I learnt early in life that you can be anything but should never be ungrateful.
I've also learnt that in life you are going to meet different people from different tribes and morals raised in diverse ways! So I should never judge or assume they should know or thinking like me

True that! These days I try to use that as an excuse for people and I've realized that it makes dealing with people a lot easier.
Is there any tip you'll like to share?  ( could be anything : photography tip, tips to keep organized, food tip/secret recipe etc )
If  you're cooking for someone important — whether it's your boss or a date — never try a new recipe and a new ingredient at the same time.

Haha! That's like fishing for disaster, thanks for the friendly reminder.
Finally, Is there by chance anyway (style/life) that reading my blog has helped you? (Or not. Lol), I'll really love to know.
Yes actually, this look was inspired by this outfit post from your blog.
                     Awww! ^_^
Thank you so much Busola for reading my blog and taking time out of your day to chat with me and answer my questions, I truly appreciate you!
