My Thoughts on Journaling.

Saturday, 26 July 2014

I've never actually kept a diary, just tidbits of my life here and there. The idea of getting one and chronicling my life events came to me randomly on thursday and I impressed myself by actually going for it and not letting it die as just an idea. So, i went out and got myself a journal. Picking out a book wasn't as hard as I envisioned (guys seriously I can be indecisive over little things) although I have to give it to the guy at the bookshop for patiently going through  journals with me till I made a choice. I was looking for something not too small, not too big and not too girly (Never too girly! Never! :| ). This book was just the right size and looked practical enough so i ended up leaving with it.
I got the book from the patabah bookstore in the mall at surulere. Of course I lingered for a while after paying to check out the other books they have. I was tempted to leave with dike ogu's 'on my way to azure shores" but that wasn't part of my budget so I had to content myself with just looking with the mindset of coming back again for it. If you're a book lover and you live in surulere, go check them out!
I'm already scribbling away in my journal and i hope i keep up with it. Wouldnt it just be cool to someday pick it up again in the future to relieve past memories?.

Have you ever kept a journal? Or do you plan on keeping one?

Outfit | How Normcore Is This?

Wednesday, 23 July 2014
P.S - I wrote this like in May but didn't post it because, laziness right timing.
Hol'up. I feel like I've been sleeping on the "what's in and what's not' news flash again. Why, I was just randomly going through the internet when I saw the word normcore thrown at me. I hit up my best pal 'google' asap and did a lot of reading up to get myself in the know. I found out that there were actually different ideas of what the trend was about and it seemed like no one really understood the essence of it.
I must admit, I was a bit confused myself and tried to initiate conversations with fellow fashion enthusiasts on this normcore thing but unfortunately they all fell my hand.
"Normcore is a unisex fashion trend characterized by unpretentious, average-looking clothing. The term combines the words "normal" and "hardcore", and was coined by K-Hole, a trend forecasting group"
Ha ha. So i've basically been going up against people who think they have style but are just the "everyday-dress-good-ordinary nothing-so-wow-about-your-outfit-people". It looks like they are the new cool thing right now. I mean, was this normcore thing started as a way to mock the authentic ones who are constantly serving us real style?
Apparently its some form of reply to the "dare to be different" ones. Its saying to hell with your authenticity, personal style statement and what-not, we don't need our clothes to make a statement.
It seems anti-style is the new cool. I personally don't think normcore is anti style! There's this coolness to it even though they swear there wasn't any effort that proves otherwise. According to The guardian, normcore wearers are people who do not wish to distinguish themselves from others by their clothing and not necessarily "sloppy" dressing.
Here's my own definition of normcore I culled from all the chaos of ideas on it out there :
Normcore is easy to wear, its comfort, its not loud yet stylish in its own way and finally its void of excess. In normcore prints and bright colours don't exist.
But I'm not so sure. You see, this normcore trend confuses me as well so maybe a little help here? Is this outfit normcore enough?

Incase you're still a bit confused : if you have to throw on a turban, or bow tie, or tweak your outfit in other to stand out then no you're not exactly normcore. Not quite

Candid Talk || Thoughts at 4 A.M

Sunday, 20 July 2014

I never sleep at a stretch, i always have "half breaks" in between.  Im not sure if its a blessing or a curse but so many things come to me during my half break and I learn myself all over again. I think about everything and nothing. Life becomes a bit clearer thanks to my half breaks and consequent late night thoughts/revelations, I have started to figure out how to go about this weird thing I have of wanting to inspire people on life, love, relationships and everything and because i suck at public speaking what other means can i use if not my blog eh?
You know its amazing how many broken people are out there wondering if they are alone in this and not knowing there are so many other broken people out there wondering the same too.
Its amazing how many females are out there right now dealing with all sorts of issues and not thinking they can have it better elsewhere. Its amazing how when you look just a little bit closely and try to come out of your own bubble and problems, you"ll find out that people out there have real problems and dont know how to go about handling it.
I've decided to start this new segment called "candid talk" , where I'll let myself be real and put down all the things that bother me at 4am in the morning. I mean i'm still learning myself and this "life" thing too and i also want to share that process with people alongside sharing my journey to finding my style and hope that someway somehow we can both learn from each other
Who is with me?

Blog Tag : Being Me

Wednesday, 16 July 2014

I was tagged by the lovely Damisiwaju and Afoma on the "Being Me" blog tag. Thank you so much guys, i feel so special whenever i get tagged in stuff going around the blogosphere. Lol
Here goes :

Are you named after someone? :
Nope, not that i know of.

When was the last time you cried? :
Lately I've become something of a crier. For some unknown reason my tear glands seem to be working overtime these days. Sometimes the tears just well up in my eyes like today while watching cruel love on telemundo (the part where sophia's junkie brother wanted to commit suicide) but the last time the tears rolled out has to be like two weeks ago.

Do you have any children? :
No, i dont. Not yet ^_^

If you were another person would you be a friend of yourself? :
Lol, but of course!! I can be a weirdo and nut case but I'm one of the good ones and i'm a cool keed. I mean. lol

Do you have any guilty pleasures? :
Ah, so much. M&M peanuts, Coldstone's German chocolate cake , Malteasers, Chocolate royale's cakes, bounty and sweet things generally . Oh and indomie Lol

Do you like handwriting? :
Yes! For most things except for pre-writing blog posts.

What’s your favourite cereal? :
Ehrmm. Cornflakes i guess. I hardly take cereals.

What’s the first thing you notice about people? :
How they are dressed, height, face.

What’s the colour of your eyes? :
Black, i think.

Scary movies or happy endings? :
I'm a sucker for happy endings! I run far away from scary movies.

Favourite TV show? :
FRIENDS!, My wife and kids, fresh prince of bel lair, the wayan brothers.

Winter or summer? :
I haven't experienced winter yet, so I guess summer for now.

Hugs or kisses? :
Hugs.

Special talent?
Ehrmmmmmmm. Still thinking of it, check back later.

Where were you born? :
Lagos, Nigeria.

Hobbies?
Reading: blogs, non medical books (lol), being a truant to my sister

Do you have any pets? :
No :( My neighbour's dog that I used to famz is dead *sobs*. I hope to have one or two when I have my  own family.

Favourite movie?
I know this probably sounds weird but i always forget what happened  in movies i've watched and even their names so its hard to pick but i guess the rare ones i actually really remember the storyline should take the title 'favourite movies" so, the great gatsby, then there's that robot fight movie with that small boy and his dad and the first ever will smith and jaden movie. I'm sure there are others but memory *sigh*

What colour is your car?
I wish i have one. If I had one though, I'm sure I won't be so bothered about what colour it is as far as it isn't something weird. I guess black, blue, red and even yellow will work for me.

What do you want to do when you grow up?
Oh god! You people should stop asking me thisquestion already! :|  Okay i really dont know but i wouldn't mind being some big fashion figure that gets front row seats at nyfw and all other international fashion weeks you know then I'll like to travel the world and well, yeah.

Inspiration : Kimono

Saturday, 12 July 2014
The first thing that popped into your mind was probably an image of a japanese geisha with white face and rosy cheeks right? But No, I'm referring to the other type of kimono. The one that screams boho chic with its breezy, playful and loose fit. I bought one recently and I've been unsure of how to wear it so I did a little research on style tips and decided to share with you all too.

TIP : You can pair it with shorts, playsuit, pants, short dresses, even maxi skirts and gowns forget the rule of proportion and of course you can wear it over your bikini.
Here are some looks for inspiration ;

I personally love the full length kimonos and the fringed ones. Which is your favourite and what do you think of the kimono?

Outfit || Double Denim II

Tuesday, 8 July 2014
Denim is one thing that just can never go out of style, i mean you can't go wrong with a classic blue jean anyday. I jumped on the double denim bandwagon last year when i saw Shala Monroque in a double denim outfit and my love
for the trend hasn't waned. If you've been following this blog from the get go, this look will probably look familiar to you. Yup remember this?. This is actually a repeat offender case but with a slightly different twist. Instead of the touch of brown here and there of the previous look, i went with my mustard flats and no decolletage.
I actually planned to wear something a bit more gloomy today but i remembered i had a sort of appointment for today and nothing like a bright outfit to make a statement right?. My friend Junadia bullied me into accepting to speak to ss3 students in our alma mater even though i kept on complaining of how crowd shy i am *sigh*. I can't exactly comment on my perfomance but i'm glad i allowed myself to be bullied *sideeye* because the only way to conquer your fear is to face your fear yes?

Yes to overcoming our fears and to more growth!
Thank You Junadia :*

Five Lessons I've Learnt In Med School

Monday, 7 July 2014

By now I expect that its no news that I'm in my final year in medical school right? Yes! So I've been meaning to blog about some of the lessons I've learnt on my med school journey but i haven't been able to make them into well formed sentences so I called on my alobam, classmate, sometimes photographer, fellow blog owner and all round great guy Ayomide Samuel a.k.a "Saga Christos" to help me out.
Here are five lessons he has learnt in med school.

The medical school life can't be described, it can only be experienced" -Sagachristos

Truth is, there are a myriad of lessons about life i've learnt in med school, right from the moment I stepped in till now, such that choosing which five to share in this post now looks harder than I previously imagined but I have tried my best to trim them down to just five.

1. Don't take life too serious :

This has got to be one of my biggest and best lessons so far and for obvious reasons, to those that know me  I'm the kinda guy that has this I-can't-kill-myself attitude to almost everything and truth is,I really can't kill myself *munches popcorn*. And thankfully so far so good,my results have testified to the goodness of God despite my not 100% serious ways. Hallaluyah! Funny enough, while I was going through the year book of the graduating class just above mine,I noticed that one thing quite a number of them said they would have loved to do differently while in school, was to have had a bit more fun. I think I can rest my case now.

 2. Life isn't always objective : Med school exams can be summarized into two categories: The Objective and the Subjective. The difference between the two is majorly that while the former is based totally on what you know, the latter is based mainly on what the examiner feels about you. Meaning,an examiner can choose to fail you just because the pink socks you wore causes him to itch and gag uncontrollably and therefore, that qualifies you as an bad student and a candidate for failure. Maybe I'm exaggerating but I hope you get the point. Life isn't always gonna be fair to you or objective. You won't always get what you deserve. Deal with it.

 3. All that glitters isn't gold :

If you ask ten students in med school if they'll come to med school again in another life, I can bet my second nut that at least seven out of them will give you a resounding NO,with ten exclamation marks '!!!!!!!!!!'. (I'll be one of them of course). And to think it's this same Medicine some people became JAMB ambassadors for. I guess what I'm saying basically is that not everything that looks good on the outside tastes so good when you get inside.

4. Never give up-

One thing that characterizes medical exams is the opportunity to have a resit when you fail and subsequently repeat the class if you fail again(sadly, both are very common in med school). Now,for some it's usually a very traumatising experience at first but then when you've passed every single exam with a resit,it becomes nothing more than just another shot at success which is how I believe we all should see it. I've seen people fail and pass resit,I've seen others repeat and pass afterwards while a few brave ones have even been withdrawn only to start over and go back to do medicine again.(Them real niggas I tell you) I'm sure most of us know the story of Abraham Lincoln and his numerous failures before finally becoming President of the US of A. Wait! You don't? Then you're the reason Google exists, oya...Google it!

5. Just do You -

Like my good friend Solomon said in 984BC,the race is indeed not to the swift. I've seen people who attend classes and copy notes like their breathing depended on it go on to fail woefully while some who only attend classes when it's time for exams pass 'without any stress'. Another thing is, both those that get Distinctions at a point and those who had resits in every class, will have same certificate. Yup! No 1st-class or stuff like that, y'all are equally doctors. Truth is, looking at these seemingly "super students" will just give gyou unnecessary tachycardia and hypertension. Therefore, my conclusion is this, just find happiness in all you do and find your own pace and all will be well with you.

Check out his blog : www.sagachristos.wordpress.com

Please my fellow med students share some of the lessons you've learnt too and ofcourse non medical students too, you can also share some of the lessons you've learnt in your various fields of study.

Book || Urichindere : Dike-Ogu Chukwumerije

Saturday, 5 July 2014
So I was going through my drafts and found this post just sitting there wasting away, how shameful.

I can still remember reading this book like it was yesterday. I was immediately drawn in by the tone with which it was written and I knew I was in for a humorous yet good read. Just like my first post on a book, this also isn't a book review. I'm just going to share a few quotes that resonated with me.
      Here goes :

-There is nothing in the past, except doctored memories. There is nothing in the grass, except a decaying body. Whatever sweets you are looking for, you will find them in front of you. And the sooner you move on, the quicker you"ll find them

- But, you see, the fact that someone has a lot of muscles and is always lifting weights and kicking palm trees does not, necessarily mean that you can't beat him in a wrestling match

- You cannot unlove once you have truly Loved. It is true.

- You see, there are always signs, because the whole world is connected. The whole world is one. The trees that grip the earth with their roots also touch the skies with their leaves

- Yes. Sometimes, friendship is better than love , because love is what people want but friendship is what they need.

- Everyone must find the light by themselves. Alone

- Can you see how life is? It turns on the same axis, giving life and death, tears and laughter, joy and sorrow. You can never tell. That is why you must always reach for everything, because you could end up with anything

That first quote is everything! No matter how much growth I think i've made, every now and then I still catch myself staring lustfully at the past but then I have to remind myself that there's nothing there for me anymore.

I did a quick Google check on the author and found out that he has a blog, he has four actually but its just this one i can relate with.
you can check it out here : http://touchmeintheheart.blogspot.nl/

I haven't been reading books which aren't medical books recently and that sucks major. I'm hoping to change that and books by African authors have been so appealing recently unfortunately they don't come as PDF files or do they? (Hook a sista up biko). It doesn't help that i follow some book lovers on instagram and they stay opressing me. lol
I also want fashion books and poetry books. My friend lent me the sartorialist's street style book sometime last year. Amazing!

What books have you been reading lately?
Which of these quotes speak to you?
Please share!!

Outfit || His Closet

Thursday, 3 July 2014
Hey Guys!
This was meant to be a really quick outfit post but i decided to add a little simething extra. This outfit wasn't preplanned at all so i didn't carry my camera with me as i didn't intend to take blog pictures hence the poor quality pictures. I feel like i've been apologizing for poor quality pictures on the blog alot lately, i really need to get myself a photographer or a new lens soonish *sigh*. Awon photographers in the house, what lens do you recommend for me please? Not anything too ghen ghen please. Lol
So I took a trip in the Mister's closet because I had nothing to wear ( i always have nothing to wear .lol ) and put together this look. This pink ombre polo was the first thing i pulled out, It's all sorts of cool and i have a good mind to not return it back *side eye*. The pants is actually red and i've been eyeing it for a while now so i already knew i just had to try it on with this top and it worked perfectly. As soon as i got over the initial awkwardness of how i looked like a dude with my hair and dressing, i realized how pretty cool i looked. Ha ha. So yeah, i just had to share this with yall.
Male clothes have always appealed to me and its just too cool how i've gone from pulling clothes from my dad's closet to his closet.
Thankful for boyfriend's with good taste.
Amen?!!
TIP : Borrow from the boys.
Incase you are looking for inspiration before going in to raid your boyfriend, brother, dad's closet, I put together this little collage of some key items to get your hands on
Blazers, ties, shirts, t shirts, polos, hats, waistcoats e.t.c

Can you tell that i have a thing for Dita of freshwallstreet.com from the collage? I think her style is amazing! She is one person who makes borrowing from the boys look so cool!
Or what do you guys feel?
