Poetry || Warsan Shire

Wednesday, 29 January 2014
OMG!! Guysssss!!! I've found my new muse! I've found another Writer/Poet to love. Warsan Shire!
You see how tumblr is amazing? You see? I randomly came across one of her quotes on tumblr and i did some CIA work googling and uncovered some of her poetry.
Warsan Shire is a London-based Kenyan-born Somali writer and she writes the Truth!!! I'm just going to share three of her poems that touched my soul

FOR WOMEN WHO ARE DIFFICULT TO LOVE
you are a horse running alone and he tries to tame you, compares you to an impossible highway, to a burning house. Says you are blinding him, that he could never leave you
forget you, want anything but you. you dizzy him, you are unbearable
every woman before or after you, is doused in your name
you fill his mouth, his teeth ache with memory of taste
his body just a long shadow seeking yours. But you are always too intense
frightening in the way you want him, unashamed and sacrificial
he tells you that no man can live up to the one who lives in your head
and you tried to change didn’t you?
closed your mouth more
tried to be softer, prettier, less volatile, less awake

but even when sleeping you could feel him traveling away from you in his dreams
so what did you want to do love, split his head open?
you can’t make homes out of human beings.
someone should have already told you that
and if he wants to leave, then let him leave
you are terrifying, and strange and beautiful
something not everyone knows how to love.

QUESTIONS FOR THE WOMAN I WAS LAST NIGHT
‘it’s not him who’d come across the sea to surprise you, not him who would know where in london to find you’
how far have you walked for men who’ve never held your feet in their laps?
how often have you bartered with bone, only to sell yourself short?
why do you find the unavailable so alluring?
where did it begin? what went wrong? and who made you feel so worthless?
if they wanted you, wouldn’t they have chosen you?
all this time, you were begging for love silently, thinking they couldn’t hear you, but they smelt it on you, you must have known that they could taste the desperate on your skin?
and what about the others that would do anything for you, why did you make them love
you until you could not stand it?
how are you both of these women, both flighty and needful?
where did you learn this, to want what does not want you?
where did you learn this, to leave those that want to stay?

SOLITUDE
God, my alone feels so good, but lately I’ve craving something more, something deeper
I want love. But not just any kind of Love, no, I want a love so deep it’d make the ocean jealous.
But I’ll only have you if you’re sweeter than my solitude. You must love me for everything I’m worth
and then some.
Start with my eyes, look into them like you want to know all the good, bad, and anything beyond. From my eyes go to my mind, love me for everything I know and love me just as much to teach me what I do not.
Hold me in your arms, and love me for everything I am, from my breasts to my thighs, and even the
scars that others have left behind
But tell me if you’re not up for it…Not that you don’t want me but rather you can’t handle me.
And please don’t say, “I won’t be like those other dudes and break your heart.”
You see my solitude has always been sweet, and during that time I learned to love myself before I
could learn to love anyone else.
Give me the love that I’ve been craving, make the ocean jealous. Fall for my eyes without knowing me just yet
And then kiss me like you want to be loved just as much
Remember that I want to be loved as deep as the ocean, but remember that I am like the ocean
I can slip through your fingers, but manage to hold up an army of ships
Kiss me, hold me, love me, but tell me if you’re not up for it
I’ll only have you if you’re sweeter than my solitude

Outfit || Dashiki x Bermuda Shorts

Monday, 27 January 2014
I'm probably the most disorganized person i know! I have clothes here, there and everywhere in my room. I try though, sometimes i schedule a day and fold and hang everything in their proper order but just give me 3days and its all back to normal *sigh* . You would think it will make picking out what to wear easier because i can see all of but its the opposite. I'm steady thinking of what to wear.lol
I had to drag myself out of my house on Sunday and after different outfit trials, i just decided wth and pulled out my dashiki. Don't you just love the easiness of a dashiki? (Check how i styled my dashiki previously here )
That bag is my "luggage bag", everyone keeps teasing me that its big enough to fit a child. lol but really it is and that's the exact reason why i love it. I seriously doubt I'll dump it even when i find a chic "luggage bag".

Eighteen years : On Loving All Of Me

Saturday, 25 January 2014

It took me 18 years to realize that I could make heads turn when I walked by and even then It was a realization tinged with the dark colors of doubt

It took me 18 years to realize I could just reach up and unstick the plain jane' label placed on my forehead by every time I was overlooked.

Ah, Yes. the forehead. It took me 18 years to realize that this mountain wasn't to be hidden by tufts of hair but to be shown off like the beautiful landmark it is.

It took me eighteen years to realize that my squinty eyes though slant and sometimes unequal could even be called beautiful

18years to realize that I was a goldfish, made to stand out. That not all flowers bloom at the same time.

It took me today to "fully" realize that I don't have to try to be prettier, softer, or dress more feminine. To embrace my quirkiness

Eighteen Years.
It took to learn to fully love all of me.

Outfit || Seeing Red

Wednesday, 22 January 2014
As you all know, I'm back to my regular school routine which means less of my normal style and more corporate dressing. Most of the time though, you'll find me in a pleated/full skirt rather than a pencil skirt. This is one of my favourite skirt and to be honest i wear it so often! Its like my go to skirt whenever I'm in a fix. lol. Now that i think of it, i was actually in a fix when i put on this outfit (yesterday), i was running late and i couldn't really be bothered to think about what to wear. Its a really easy look. I dragged my classmate to help me take pictures (Thank you Biola, you were amazing!)
I would have tried to be more chatty but honestly right now I'm extremely tired (I'm always tired everyday) and my laptop keeps giving me the low battery alert so I'll just pack up and head to bed.
Quick shout out to all my new followers. Thank you Darlings!
I'm seriously counting down to Friday!! I just can't wait for the weekend

How is it possible that my Blog is already one year old? How? You see what i said about how fast time goes? . I still remember my first post like it was yesterday *sigh*. I'm reading it right now and I'm laughing at how amateurish it feels.loll. (See it HERE) I have definitely gotten better at this blogging thing but then I'm still learning.
Its been an Amazing One Year with all of you! No Really I mean it. I've met awesome people through this blogging thing. Chill, do i really have to mention names? Thank You for the support!!
Ah! all the amazing comments i get (sometimes i have to munch and share with the boo because they get me all emotional and happy) and even though this school is threatening to leave me with no free time, I hope to continue blogging for a long time and i really hope you'll stay with me!

Style Crush || Yasmin Sewell

Thursday, 16 January 2014
Yasmin Sewell!!! Two words! Amaze-Ball! Oh wait, that's one word right?
I recently discovered Yazz (Oh yes, i already have a pet name for her. She's my friend in my head. Call it what you want. Its allowed, I'm a cool kid :| ), who is a fashion retail consultant and creative advisor for various fashion brands as well as a trend forecaster.
I love her style! Its Quirky, Unique and Oh can you see all that androgyny thing she has going on. Now tell me, why wouldn't i love this woman ehn.?
I'm looking for a Yazz look to try to replicate. It will probably be one of her "full skirt" outfits just because i love full skirts and i happen to have lots of them.

What do you guys think? Whose style have you been crushing on lately?
Tell Cassie!!! ^_^

The Beginning Of The End

Monday, 13 January 2014
Took this en-route school today
"One day, you're 17 and you're planning for someday. And then quietly without you ever knowing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life - John Green''
Its mind-boggling the way time goes by so fast. Only yesterday, I was replying all the numerous "what will you specialize in after school" questions with "I'll figure that out when I get to my final year" and now I'm beginning my final year of my med school journey. I still really haven't got that figured out although I've certainly become more aware of the fact that this is the most important period of my undergraduate life and I have to push/apply myself more. Goodbye Procrastination.
Its becoming less about what I want to be doing and more about what I really should be doing.

School kicked off for me today, with my first posting being in Obstetrics and gynecology(spending 3months in this dept). My Last relationship with the O&G department during my 400Level Postings included walking back to my room from the labor ward by 2am in the morning and "mild depression". I'm pretty sure it will include all of that and even more this time around but i'll be fine.(I have no choice anyways)
I'm still battling with my dissertation but God be my muscle. Lol

Heading into this last session with lots of determination and positivity, Keeping people like Shaenk close to always get my school ginger up.
God help me.

Outfit || Weekend Casual x Jazzhole.

Sunday, 12 January 2014
Hey Hey!
I know things have been a bit slow around here, I'm still trying to get back my groove plus I've been plagued by that feeling of inadequacy for some time now. The "What if this isn't good enough to blog about" feeling. I know, I know! I should just let things flow naturally and try not to over think things. Inasmuch as this is my blog and i blog for me, i also blog for you all too and your feedback is really important to me! I have a couple of my "random musings" unfinished writeups scattered around in my draft, I should probably stop all the over thinking and just put it up.*sigh*
Enough of the rambling though, this is actually an outfit post. Just a simple outfit i wore to get around on Saturday. White chiffon shirt, all buttoned up in typical Cassie Daves style but all tucked out in a very untypical Cassie Daves manner. lol, blue turn up jeans and my brown brogues.
Forgive the picture quality. Took these with my phone as i forgot to carry my camera out with me (Seriously, who does that?)
Sometime early this week, I went to this amazing place called "JAZZHOLE" on awolowo road in Ikoyi and left with the book you can see in my pictures up there. Its a Book shop/Cafe&Coffee shop which also deals with CD & DVD rentals. It has this oldies feel to it that i can't really describe but i loved it! Its the book aspect that got me all excited though, Imagine been surrounded by all those books *Perfect*

What's your typical weekend style? And of course
How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

Outfit || Florange x Life Lately

Tuesday, 7 January 2014
Heyy yall!
This is a leftover outfit post from last year. I wonder why i kept it in my drafts for too long.
Anywhooo, I paired this my floral vintage blazer which i absolutely adore wuth a white shirt and orange pants! Yes Orange!. Mahnn, i have really changed. Honestly the cassandra of before wouldnt wear orange pants! Too loud , i was all black and grey but look at me nowww.

The past few days has been filled with inactivity, comfort food and constantly beating myself up for not being productive. I'm almost afraid to step on a scale for fear of what it will reveal.  *siigh*
In other news, I finally dragged myself to the salon after weeks of procastination to get my hair fixed. I got a bit tired of the short hair and figured a new look is in order at least for now. Although i miss hiding behind the excuse of "my hair isn't presentable" to prevent leaving the comfort of my house but this new look makes me feel all forms of good and really feminine

So here i am, laying on the couch munching on M&M, typing this post with a touchscreen phone *serious struggle* . School work resumes in full force next week, i might as well enjoy these last few days i have to be lazy and unproductive.
What have you all been up to?
