Med Diary 01

Friday, 29 November 2013

e
Some random snapshots from my ophthalmology posting. Classmates and then some
My six weeks in ophthalmology posting expired sometime around noon today after the final bell signifying the end of "the end of posting" exam was rung. (haha, see what i did here) and now i can officially say i'm in my final year of this med school struggle. Although, the struggle never quite ends because we never ever stop learning in the medical field but hey i'm a step closer and for that I'm extremely thankful! Six yearsssss yo!
This is the first Christmas I'll actually spend not writing one exam or another and I'm not quite sure how i feel about that yet. Oh, I'm pretty sure about how i feel not having to deal with all the anxiety and tension that comes with writing professional exams in this school, i just haven't figured out what i'll spend this holiday doing.Definitely reading lots and lots of literature, especially books by Nigerian/African authors and this time around I'll try not to spend most of my days on a couch
in a dark room.  *I'm not odd, i promise* :|
What do you guys have planned for the hols?
Oh and I'll totally appreciate any suggestions on books to read. Please leave me your thoughts in the comment box :)

Outfit || Color Crush

Wednesday, 27 November 2013

Free flowing gowns are the next best thing after the harem pant, and boyfriend jeans of course. I tell ya! Its an easy option for those days when you really can't be bothered with dressing up but still don't want to look like someone with vagrant psychosis. Today was one of such days, i didn't plan on leaving my house today at all but my School and lecturers have no respect for my plans *What is this life?*.
I got this amazing gown from my "equally amazing friend. Just look at the colours, isn't it "oh so prettyy??
It was the perfect choice for my journey to school this hot afternoon because
1. I really couldn't be bothered to think about what to wear
2. The compliments i got from random people on the street helped elevate my mood after it dropped to a dangerous low level when i received the message that i had to be in school
3. Okay, yeah basically. You get my point
Seriously guys, free flowing/Maxi gowns are your best friend.

In case you are wondering, I also don't know why i kept on smiling sheepishly in all the pictures but i guess you guys are stuck with this awkward smiling face of mine. :P

Wait, did i mention that i have this gown in three colours? Y'all need a friend like mine. :D

Inspiration : Tartan/Plaid

Tuesday, 26 November 2013
I've been a bit lacking in posts for my "style inspiration" segment after my first one on the "Mixed Print trend. I apologize.
Remember the tartan print? That print that reminds you a bit of a school uniform. lol  Its back in trend and I decided to put together a few pictures on some cool new ways to rock tartan/Plaid/

What do you guy's think of the return of this trend?
Yay or Nay?
I can totally see myself in one of those looks especially pictures 1.3 and 4.

Outfit || Dungaree Dress

Friday, 22 November 2013

Going through these pictures now, i realize i look a tad bit like a "Farm girl". haha. Is it just me or are you guys seeing it too? lol
Honestly, when i threw on this outfit, i wasn't thinking much. I was more concerned with making it on time to the venue of a test shoot where my friend Kachy of BlackFabulousity was waiting to test her photography skills on me but when i looked at my reflection in the mirror, it was working quite fine for me. I love the mix of Blue and Yellow and that red belt was the first belt i picked out of my closet so i also put that on and rushed out the door.
I love the loose fit of this navy blue Corduroy dungaree, although i'm beginning to seriously think about taking it to a tailor to make it fitted.

What do you guys think? Free or Fitted?

Book || Helon Habila - Waiting for an Angel

Saturday, 16 November 2013
This isn't exactly a book review, just some quotes that spoke to me and i definitely had to put down while i was reading "Helon Habila's- Waiting for an Angel" Book

-Life is like a wave motion, full of highs and lows. We sit on life's shores with our hands open, waiting to receive. But the water knows, more than we do, what we need and what we don't need. It takes away from us what we don't need, and drops it at another shore where it is needed. Sometimes it returns to us what it took away, refined and augmented with brine and other sea minerals

-Ah, sweet youth. Your life has just started. Youth. That is the one thing the waves never return to us. Once lost, it is gone for ever.

-But no two loves, or pains, or loyalties can ever be the same

-What light and winged things promises are, fluttering away on the wind no sooner than they are uttered

-People become dreamers when they are not satisfied with their reality, and sometimes they don't know what is real till they begin to dream

- You are so young and this world is full of falsehood. Before you know it, its all gone. Youth, Laughter. All

- the world is not as big and incomprehensible as people will have us believe. Everything lies within our grasp, if only we cared to reach out boldly.

- All we need is a little imagination to discover that things are not as fixed or impossible as we believe

- Not all things must be understood immediately. The important thing is to see and  memorize all the faces and impressions, and one day they will begin to make sense to you

Model Diary || Vlisco X House of Jasmine show

Friday, 15 November 2013

Creative Director behind House Of Jasmine – Oyinda Ogunsanwo

I remember way back when my only connection with the fashion industry was via magazines, it seemed like the vlisco brand was always in every magazine i looked at and i would stare and stare at their fabulous fabrics and fierce models (seriously, those models are bad-ass) and all i could do at that time was dream that someday I'll get to appear in one of those magazines and walk the runway. It didn't even have to be for Vlisco, even though that would have been amazing but i didn't let myself dream that big. It seemed so far to reach
Fast forward to the present, I've gotten to do lots of things that i didn't even think possible back then.
I got to work with Vlisco, even though technically it was a collaboration fashion show between the House of Jasmine and Vlisco but the fabrics were all Vlisco ankara fabrics.

And yet again, getting someone (one of the models) to help take my pictures was a failed attempt. I stay losing but oh well those are some of the pictures i struggled to take in between the backstage craziness.

Spot Me!!!

Embrace what makes you unique even if it makes others uncomfortable- janelle monae

Lately, I've been feeling a bit conflicted. People keep telling me to wear more dresses (even if its just subtle hints here and there) and be a bit more feminine.
I just had to take a step back and remember that I dress for me, and that feeling comfortable in my own skin and outfits is more important than any opinion anyone else has. I alone understand what fashion means to me and I can't expect other people to flow with me.
Maybe with time, I'll transition to that elegant lady most people want me to be. Maybe! And when that transition happens, I want it to be because I decided to let that happen.
I love Fashion but I love creativity even more and I like to let that show in my outfits. I don't want to ever be that "pretty/designer gown with nice heels wearing" person.
Really, a girl's just trying to get someone to help her take good pictures. Everyone I've been giving my camera to help me take pictures of late have been producing blurry ass pictures for me but where is the choice that I've got huh? Thank you Tracy and Remy (._.)
I look so dark and like a mess in most of these pictures but oh whatever.
Wore this to a fashion show i had recently (which i'll be blogging about pretty soon so watch this space B-). Remember my boyfriend jeans from my Girls will be boys post? Yurr, i'm still finding new ways to rock it.

"You can dream something all the way through and what happens with your creativity is it gets blocked by what society says you should do. You always over think yourself. Criticism will bother you but you should be more bothered if there's no criticism. That means you're too safe and nobody cares. They feel invested in a way, like I have a responsibility to them. At the end of the day, I only have responsibility for myself." -Kanye West

Birthday Wishlist!

Friday, 8 November 2013
We all spend so much time not saying what we want, because we know we can't have it. And because it sounds ungracious, or ungrateful, or disloyal, or childish, or banal... Whatever it is, say it to yourself. The truth will set you free. Either that or it'll get you a punch in the nose.  - Nick Hornby

So guyssss! Its officially one month to my birthday! December 8th!!!!!
I'm not one of those people that get uber-excited about their birthdays and basically put it in your face from like two months before the actual date. Nope! Honestly, I've never really caught the "birthday excitement bug" and I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.
But men and brethren, I'm here to say that this year will be different! This year feels different and therefore this year should be different. (I'll prolly still not have a party- side eye to my classmates and friends)
No! I won't be extreme and all but I have some cause to be even a teeny weeny bit excited about my birthday. :D

I've also never done this before. Writing a "birthday wishlist". Haha but like I said this year has really been a defining year for me. Lots of positive changes and growth in my life  so I might as well dump "loner, recluse, sad ol Cassandra" and join the bandwagon of bloggers writing a birthday wishlist.
